Today in SCIENCE we:

• Tried to do Current Events, but no one was ready.
• No vocabulary today. Is your vocabulary duotang up to date? What about your Journal duotang?
• Watched the end of Apollo 13. This is a TRUE story. The characters are REAL people. What do you think about what happened in this movie? We will talk about it again when we do our ELECTRICITY & SPACE units.
• If you missed a class, you need to find me BEFORE your next class starts.....you have a WHOLE DAY. Email, phone a friend, find me in the morning, at lunch, after school.......
• We did a "pop quiz". How did that go? You got to use your textbook.....we will go over it QUESTION by QUESTION in January.
• TSQ4R sia9 p 144-147. It is about IONIC compounds.
• Do sia9 c&r p149 #1-9.

• Got vocabulary #20
• Did current events.....why was only one person ready? Well done to that well prepared person.
• Talked about ELECTRON SHELLS. How many electrons fly around in each shell?
• Talked about ISOTOPES. What is an ISOTOPE?
• How do you tell how many neutrons are in an atom of an element?
• Did a quiz....do you know the difference between physical & chemical changes?
• Did some reaction examples: food colouring & water, alka-seltzer & water, vinegar & baking soda, sugar.
• What is the difference between MELTING & COOKING?
• What happened when we put mentos candies into diet coke? Was there a difference when we used the fruit flavoured ones versus the mint flavoured ones? HOW DID YOU KNOW? WHY did that reaction occur? What do you think is happening? What did our experiment look like? What were the variables?
• Please Complete your journal entry that discusses what you saw, and why you saw this.
• Please read & UNDERSTAND sia9 p138-142. Did you read the Key Concepts & Learning Outcomes? Have you met them?

Today in SCIENCE we:

• Did current events. GREAT work! Is it your turn on THURSDAY?
• Got vocabulary #19. Due Thursday.
• Talked about predicting atomic numbers and properties of NEW elements.
• What is the difference between atomic # & atomic mass? How can we figure out the number of NEUTRONS in an element? Took notes about it. Do your NOTES make SENSE? MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS BY THURSDAY.
• Read sia9 p135 about quality control. In our JOURNAL we answered the questions and wrote a personal reflection about it.
• Sia9 p 136 #1-6 is due on THURSDAY.

• Finished our Famous Scientist Presentations.
• Did Current Events. Remember that FRIDAY is your day to MAKE up a missed current event.
• Got a new Current Events Schedule. You are set until the end of JANUARY.
• Did an on-line activity about the PHYSICAL properties of substances. What did the meteorite contain? How can you SUPPORT your answer?
• Handed in our "no chemical" paragraphs.
• Talked about the STRUCTURE of an ATOM. Again.
• Talked about STATES of MATTER & CHANGES in STATES of Matter. How do the atoms/molecules move? How much space is between them? Watched the changes on the smart board.
• Can you name the 4 states of matter and describe what their atoms/molecules are doing?
• READ: sia9 p97-99 (the green boxes are IMPORTANT), p102-103.
• DO: sia9 p110 ayl #4-10 (YES you do need to write down the question).

Today in SCIENCE we:

• Talked about what you did while I was away. Good work folks.
• Did Current Events - WELL DONE! Be ready when it is your turn people.
• Who is the Cleanest of them all?? How did we handle this multiple choice question?
• Put our vocabulary in our vocabulary duotangs
• Had a homework check on our Unit Review - you know, when I ask you to make up time after school or at lunch to do your work, it is for your own good & you should be there. Now I will need to make phonecalls home.
• Reviewed our ppm worksheet - did you get the right answers?
• Did a "quick lab" on Page 238 - we reviewed the questions and how to read the map - should be DONE.
• Did a KWL chart for Environmental Chemistry - how much information does yours contain?
• Wrote questions for environmental chemistry jeporady & handed them in. Worked in groups of 2.
• There was a list on the board of those students who have not handed in their lab safety contracts and those who have not completed their safety test corrections. These issues need to be taken care of before you can participate in any lab activities.

• Discussed standards and what it takes to get to science 10.
• Did vocabulary.
• Watched 2 videos, wrote extensive journal entries about them. I hope you all understood their importance and significance.
• Review PPM - what is it? Finish the PPM worksheet.
• Had a homework check. Any zeros from now on will be greeted with a phone call home and time after school to finish them up.
• Please do TSQ4R on sia9 p243-258 and ayl p234 #1-11.

• Had Current Events.
• Did vocabulary #15. Handed in vocabulary #14.
• Handed in our inquiry from page 231.
• Did a pop quiz. It was the same kind of questions that was on the last quiz. How do you think you did?
• Practice Lockdown. From what I have heard it went reasonably well.
• Quick Lab - p238 Environmental Transport - handed in before the end of class.
• P233 c&r #1-9: Due Friday. Please FORMAT your assignment properly. This includes a proper title with page numbers, your name, the date, your class, and write out the questions.
• TSQ4R p236-242. Due Friday. What does TSQ4R stand for.
• I hope I have a good report about this class on my desk tomorrow morning.

Today in SCIENCE we:

• Did Current Events - should be an easy 5% of your grade, you just have to be ready.
• Got vocabulary #14. Handed in vocabulary #12 & 13.
• Up to vocabulary #13 should be complete and in your vocabulary duotang, this should be left in the classroom at all times. This should have been another easy 5% of your grade.
• Reviewed lockdown procedures. There is a greater possibility of a real lockdown than a real fire. You need to take this seriously, if you endanger your classmates, you will be sent into the hallway - which is not a safe place to be during a lockdown.
• Got the Data for the Inquire on p231 - this is due on Wednesday.
• Finished our station for the environmental recovery project. Based on your data & your report, do you think I would hire you again?
• Pop Quiz on Wednesday.

I am very disappointed. You should be proud of your school and proud to show how great your are. Your marks are a direct reflection of your willingness to stay on task and complete your assignments. I hope that in the future you will be more successful rising to the expectations and challenges I have set for you, because that bar will not go lower.

• Did current events - well done, it was a good article and there were good questions.
• Handed in Vocabulary #7, got vocabulary #8. Due WEDNESDAY.
• Got our safety tests back - if you got LESS THAN 40/50 you need to do your test corrections & write 3 paragraphs to demonstrate that you understand what lab safety is.
• Did the Acids and Bases Song!! Did you get all of the blank spaces filled in? That song can help you know and understand pH and acids and bases!
• Had a homework check - what do you need to do to get 10/10 on homework checks?
• Watched Planet Earth and did a journal entry about what makes a good/or healthy ecosystem. What does a healthy ecosystem look like? Do we have healthy ecosystems around Calgary? Due Wednesday.
• If you did not finish your homework, you need to get caught up. We will go over the check and reflects on Wednesday.

• Used the TSQ4R method to take notes on sia9 p180-190. Omit p181 & 189.

• Are your notes properly labelled with a title (that includes page numbers), your name, class, and the date?

• Got a worksheet on variables & observations - due TUESDAY.
• Watched a "rap" video about the Hadron Particle Smasher. Then we watched a National Geographic video about the smasher & the results of today's big experiment. What are they doing & why?
• Got 7 more vocabulary words, due TUESDAY. Don't forget you need to include the term, definition (in your own words), a picture, & a sentence that uses the term correctly.
